Im in my mid 40s and I had a drainless tummy tuck with muscle repair 4 years ago. Between 6-8 months post op I developed 2 hernias. 1 umbilical and 1 ventral. Both were very small and were stitched by a general surgeon without mesh. Within 1 year the ventral hernia reoccurred and I had another hernia repair surgery this time with mesh. Fast forward another year and after a nasty cough around the holidays both the ventral and umbilical hernias opened back up and I have a new ventral hernia and inch above the previous. I am not overweight and I do not work out or put excessive strain on my stomach. My tummy tuck was 6 years after giving birth to my last child. What could be causing my reoccurring hernias and could it be caused by my tummy tuck? How can I stop reoccurrence from my existing hernias and stop the development of any new ones? I have spoken to my surgeon and shes been great but unsure about why this happening.
I am very slim and used to be very active (dancing, boxing, kite surfing, yoga, Hiit training). I have 4cm separation . Will it make a difference for my ability to exercise and bend/stretch if the surgeon uses permanent vs dissolvable sutures? My surgeon wants to use permanent sutures, no mesh and i am concerned it will limit my ability to move, twist, bend and make me too tight. Are dissolvable sutures the better option?
1 year ago i had a full tummy tuck with a hernia repair ..but i also do not have a gallbladder to break down my foods so some foods I eat causes bloating at times . I have noticed when i wear my faja garments it helps with the bloating...but my question is is it safe to do sit-ups with out damaging the hernia repair? I'm getting frustrated and tired of always wearing it because it's been a whole of wearing it each day..can I do 50 sit-ups aa night and or planks to help with bloating? Without damage
I'm interested in a tummy tuck. If I'm not a candidate for the FDL tummy tuck and get an extended TT, could my previous vertical scar be removed? Thank you. PREVIOUS SURGERIES: Lapriscopic hysterectomy Open ab surgery to repair tear during hysterectomy Large incisional hernia/AWR with mesh x2 (first surgery for hernia failed)
I am a 56 year old female and I am interested in lipo and a tummy tuck. I had a hernia repair about 15 years ago. Will the fact that I have mesh disqualify me from having a tummy tuck?
umbilical hernia, 3 cm on the outside I'm told. Size of a grape. about 3.5 DR separation. Surgeon wants to use permanent duramesh sutures. I know it's NOT the same thing at all, but I have a family member who had a horrible hernia repair that was a mesh repair, and it just completely cheese wired inside of her, and she needed multiple revisions because it kept failing. So I don't know the correlation between a suture made out of mesh vs normal permanent suture in TT. Thanks
Do you have to use mesh for a tummy tuck result with an hourglass shape? I would love to avoid implanting something foreign in my body but really want the hourglass TT result. Is it just as possible to get it without mesh, or less likely to be possible? Thank you!
Hello and thank you for taking the time to review my question. I am 5'9 150lbs and very active, but I have a significant distasis recti and externally visible hernia as a result of 2 pregnancies. So much so that while lying on my back, I can see intestinal peristalsis when food is digesting. My doctor mentioned she may need to add mesh during my procedure (TT W/ No lipo.) I do not want mesh. Can my hernia and seperation not be corrected by just simply suturing the muscle together? Thanks!
I had a tummy tuck 6 years ago and now I have a hiatal hernia. My general surgeon suggested robotic hernia repair with mesh. He wants to do a 10 x 10 of mesh to also fix other weak spots in my abdomen. Will the robotic repair affect the cosmetic side of my tummy tuck? Will I need another tummy tuck? Also my muscles were not tightened last time because the surgeon didnt want to work with previous mesh from an incisional hernia repair that was repaired 23 years ago
