I have a lipoma in my thigh, want it removed as causes discomfort when I exercise more as it seems maybe increased muscle pushes against it. Appears it may be a bit deeper in thigh. I want it out, but wanted to know what to expect with costs (willing to pay OOP), procedure, turnaround (wanting to prepare for a half marathon but had to stop training due to discomfort increasing). Had it 15 yrs+ and ready to get it out. Will imaging be needed and can it be done on site if so? How many visits total?
I am having a lipoma removed from the back of my thigh, 2 inches above the knee. It's 5cm horizontal and 2cm vertical in shape. Which is the best direction for surgical incision to reduce scarring? I've been told horizontally as it follows Langer lines, but was also told vertically is better as when you elongate leg the skin will pull on scar and stretch it, so a horizontal incision would get wider from this. Which is right?
Im a 20 year old female. Ive had a dime sized lipoma on my left leg below my inguinal area on my upper thigh since I was 13. Never caused me any problems until recently when I woke up with it tender and swollen. Over 3 days it became painful, red, and the size of a 50 cent piece. Dermatologist diagnosed it as an angiolipoma and injected it with steroids to help with the pain and inflammation. I would like to have it removed, should I have the dermatologist remove it or go to another surgeon?
I have a large (abt the size of a small lime) lipoma on my upper thigh. I just saw a general surgeon who said it could be removed via surgery (with a drain, leaving an indentation & scar, with a recovery period >= 1 week, covered by insurance) or via liposuction (no drain, no indentation, minimal scar, & not covered by insurance, abt $2500), with about the same long-term risk of it recurring. I don't care too much about the scar, but the indentation worries me. Any thoughts on which way to go?
I have a 1 cm lipoma on the front of my thigh that I am thinking about getting removed but I'm worried about the complications of surgery and cutting into the skin. How deep is the incision for removing a lipoma and is there a chance I will have complications and neuropathy from a damaged nerve during the removal? Thank you!
I have over 50 lipomas in each thigh and several in my upper arms as well. I do not want all the scars on my legs or arms, so I am considering liposuction to have the lipomas removed. When I spoke to my general practitioner, he informed me that this is not the way to go about it and I would need to get each one individually removed, but I have read online that some people do elect to have the liposuction procedure to remove the lipomas. Or if there is another procedure that you know of??
I had lipomas across my body (varied sizes). a year back, i had an infection in the thigh lipoma (in inch dia) & got it operated. again there was fat accumulation in the same place and lipoma recurred. A month back again it got infected & i had another surgery in same place. a hole was left to drain the fluid/ collection. it had healed & was pressing it in perimeter to see if collection is there. I guess i pressed too hard and it got infected again. I am unable to understand the root cause.
I now have 2 much larger ones on the inner and upper part of both thighs which are not painful but bother me aesthetically. I've also had recurring left ankle, foot and calf swelling which gets worse as the day goes on. I've been taking Lasix 40 mgs. for approximately 6 months with no improvement. My question is could it be possible that the left lipoma is decreasing the blood flow to my left leg?
Hello! I have a hard lump under the skin on the back of my thigh. The lump is about the size of a chickpea, maybe slightly bigger, the skin above it is not discolored. I was told that it could be a lipoma. On an ultrasound it was visible, but when I had an MRI done, it was completely invisible. Does that exclude a lipoma? What else could it be? What kind of tissue is invisible on an MRI? What kind of lump should be removed? Thank you! (I'm female, late 20's, BMI 21)
