Are discolored nipples after surgery something to be concerned about?

I had a breast reduction over a month ago. I'm healing well and have had few complications. But my mother and I have noticed that my nipples are a very different color than they were before surgery. It's almost like they're lacking color. They used to be a nice pink and are now kind of sallow and pale. I'm wondering if this is temporary and if it's normal/healthy?

Hypopigmentation can occur after a breast reduction but is usually mild unless the areolas have to be removed and replaced as a skin graft which is always never necessary.  Hypopigmentation is more common with people of darker skin color but can occur after any surgery.  At one month, there are still changes that may occur, so give it some time.  Be patient for now and express your concerns with your plastic surgeon.  Best wishes and good luck.

can occur after surgery but if you have not experienced nipple complications such as loss at this point, give yourself time to heal and it should improve with time.  You can also mention it to your surgeon at your next visit but in the absence of major problems such as nipple compromise, observation is your best option at this time.
