I currently wear a 34DD and weigh about 135 lbs. I experience chronic back pain as well as have a developing hunch which I worry may exacerbate my (minor) scoliosis. I want to go down to a B cup if possible, but I know going down too much can compromise blood flow. Do you think given my relatively small stature that this is achievable?

Answer: Breast cup size predictability after surgery Hi, thank you for your question.Going from a DD to a B is definitely attainable with breast reduction surgery. The issue with blood flow generally concerns the viability of the nipple. This usually has to do with the amount of distance the nipple has to go from its current position to where it should be on a rejuvenated breast. From a DD to a B, there should not be a significant threat to the nipple. Be sure to avoid smoking, because patients who smoke before/after their reduction surgery can have detrimental effects to the healing and nipple viability.I hope this helps.- Dr. Bryson G. Answer: Ultimate Breast Reduction™ At size 34 DD each 100 grams removal corresponds to 1 cup size change.300 gram removal would take you from a DD to a B.I recommend a new technique called The Ultimate Breast Reduction™.The breast tissue is reshaped creating upper pole fullness, elevated higher on the chest wall and more medial to increase your cleavage. The weight of the breast is transferred to the underlying muscle resulting in immediate pain relief without excessive reduction. This technique avoids the ugly vertical scars of the traditional technique, maintains nipple sensation and the ability to breast feed.Best Wishes,Gary Horndeski, M.D.

Answer: Breast reduction results I think with your frame you should benefit from a breast reduction. Whether you can get down to size B depends on your examination and surgeon's judgment. You should do very well with your breast reduction improving your symptoms and improving your aesthetic breast appearance

Answer: Can I go from a DD cup to a B cup with breast reduction? Is this achievable with my relatively small stature? Congratulations on your decision to proceed with breast reduction surgery; it is one of the most patient pleasing operations we perform. Before undergoing the breast reduction procedure it will be very important to communicate your size goals with your surgeon. Most patients wish to achieve a enough of a reduction to help with their symptoms while remaining proportionate with the remainder of their torso. prior to in to undergoing any further surgery, it will be important to communicate her goals carefully.Yes, it is possible to reduce the breasts size very significantly. The concern with the amount of tissue removed is related to blood flow to the remaining tissue; if too much tissue is removed in one operation the blood flow to the remaining tissue (including nipple/areola) may be compromised. Part of the tissue that is left in place is called the “pedicle"; this segment of tissue is responsible for delivering the blood supply to the nipple/areola tissue. If the pedicle is made too small (in the effort to reduce the breasts as much as possible) then patient will likely have problems with tissue survival. The other concern with overly aggressive breast reduction surgery is patient dissatisfaction afterwards. It is not unusual for patients who have lived with very large breasts to want to have as much as possible removed. Care must be taken to be judicious in this removal to avoid an outcome where the breasts are too small in relation (proportionately) to the patient's other body parts. Again, it is not uncommon, for patients' breasts to become smaller (after the breast reduction procedure) with time and/or weight loss- breast augmentation may become necessary to achieve the patient size goals.I hope this, and the attached link, helps.
