Successful permanent removal of hypopigmented flat scars with TCA.

Question

Are any doctors familiar with the process of being able to fully and permanently remove scars by softening them with TCA and then manually damaging the scar when it has been softened and in its most pliable stage? I have done medium depth TCA peels and stumbled upon this by accident when I picked at a whitehead which was situated on top of an acne scar. The whole scar turned pink in a day and over the course of a few days the scar seemed to detach from the healthy skin underneath.

Although I am not aware of the TCA procedure you are describing for repigmenting scars, I am concerned about self-treatment with a potent acid like trichlorooacetic acid, the use of which should only be left to medical professionals. TCA can cause severe burns from mishaps or improper use, especially if used in concentrations of 25% or higher. As to repigmenting hypopigmented spots and scars, I have found the combined use of medical microneedling (using a Dermastamp for small scars) with topical tyrosine and lanatoprost to be quite helpful. You would do well to think twice about continuing self-treatment and instead seek consultation and treatment by a board certified aesthetic physician. Best of luck.

I don't recommend applying TCA yourself due to the risk of hyperpigmentation. Hypopigmented scars can be improved with lasers and microneedling/prp. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a cosmetic dermatologist. Best, Dr. Emer
