How long can I expect jaw/gum pain after my bite is corrected?

My bite was "off" for about a month. Now I think it is right. I am still having bad jaw/gum pain though. Do I need to wait for my jaw to "settle down" from being beat up for so long by a bad bite or go back to the dentist and have them recheck my bite? It has been 4 days with the corrected bite and still pain.

If you were hitting high on a tooth for a month it may take 3-10 days or so to feel normal unless there is a more complicated issue.  The important thing right now is if the tooth is feeling better, even though it is not perfect.  If the tooth continues to feel better and better than be patient with it.  If any swelling or extreme pain occurs though you should return to your dentist to discuss.

Did you have a large filling? Or a crown? If any extensive work was recently done, you may need additional treatment. Typically the swelling should peak and start to subside by the 3rd day. I would take what you would for a headache 4 times a day.Sincerely,Dr. Reiser
