Should I Wear Braces if I Don't Need Them?

Believe it or not, we occasionally have patients who really miss their braces after they are removed.  They have really become so accustomed to them.  But it is important to have them removed when the job is finished so the teeth are easier to keep clean and healthy.

If you really want that metal look, perhaps ask your orthodontist for a wire Hawley type retainer rather than a clear one.

One of the risks of orthodontic care that lasts a long time is risk for decay.  Brackets create niches for plaque and bacteria, and even the most careful patient will eventually get cavities.

If the purpose is to get straight teeth, and the goal was accomplished, then there would be no point.  While it is every patient's right to choose services for themselves, it may be difficult to find a dentist willing to place brackets, as they become responsible for outcomes.
