Does Water retention cause seromas?

Question

I retained a lot of water in my belly after my past surgery of BA. I was swollen for about 3-4 weeks after. Now that I'm considering a tummy tuck, this water retention worries so much. Will this cause a seroma? Should I expect this to happen to me?

Fluid retention can become a problem after surgery. I always recommend limited plain water intake, but keep hydrated with fluids with balanced electrolytes such as Gatarade or just different juices. This will help limit fluid imbalance which may worsen seroma formation. Excessive water in intake is never a good idea after surgery but you must keep well hydrated.

Seromas after TT are drastically reduced by tacking the abdominal wall down to the rectus fascia.Drains may or may not be necessary. Fluid retention is not the cause of seromas post TT.Consult a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.Best wishes
