Was this correct and what could be the interaction between exilis and the metal. Also, what can I do instead?

Exilis can not be used over an area with metal plates or screws or other metal implants. The metal will heat up may burn the area or loosen the screws. Other options to tighten skin are available. These include the traditional facelift as well as laser surgery which can be done over implants as the energy is quite superficial for that. Chemical peel may also be a good option depending on your specific needs.  It is best to have a consult with a plastic surgeon who has the many tools to effectively give you the best option.

Exilis uses heat and radiofrequency to reduce fat and tighten skin. The heat used can cause any metal exposed to the radiofrequency to rise in temperature. During Exilis, patients even remove any metal jewelry due to possible temperature increases in the metal. Therefore, patients with metal implants in the area being treated are unable to have Exilis due to the risk of the metal quickly heating up during the procedure. Depending upon your needs, your dermatologist can discuss other options available for skin tightening that are not contraindicated with metal implants.
