Our treatments use combination therapy to improve the epidermis and dermis for most deep scars. The options available for acne scars depend on the character of your scars, in terms of topography and contour. We see atrophic and hypertrophic acne scars, as well as scars that have hypo and hyperpigmentation. We begin each scar evaluation with an assessment of scar quality and subtype. Our main concern is rebuilding collagen and that is why we use a HIDEF protocol that includes combination therapy. Morpheus 8, scar subcision, fibrous release, fractional laser, CO2 laser, Thulium laser, PDL Vbeam laser, and fractional resurfacing can be used in addition to TCA Cross and chemical peels to further improve skin. Patients should start Melarase AM and Melarase PM for active hyperpigmentation. Always begin with a consultation to decide whether early subcision should be started.

To be honest, most creams are useless and although they give claims of improving the appearance of scars they often only make the scars feel better but do little with their texture or color.  one cream that is silicone based and contains a sunscreen is available over the counter (biocorneum) and is one of the few FDA approved scar gels and may help your scars.  but without seeing them, it would be tough to gauge if there is any chance of improvement.  typically a combination of lasers help the most or dermapen (microneedling) treatment will give a significant improvement.  I treat a significant number of post-breast and post-tummy tuck scars this way, and patients are very happy.  however, it will take a number of treatments and cost some money.  nothing will remove the scar completely, but there are things that can help make them look and feel better.  I wish you the best of luck, Dr. Emer.
