Will hair grow back on scalp around surgical site?

I had a pilar cyst removed at the end of May of this year; the stitches were removed fourteen days later however infection set in shortly thereafter. As a result, the hair that was growing in from the recently shaved areas. Although the infection has cleared, the hair is not growing back. Will it and how long will it take?

After surgery of any kind (whether pilar cyst removal or other), hair may or may not return. Co-existent infection reduces the chance of regrowth to some degree. You'll know how much regrowth will return by about 7-9 months after completion of the infection. Be sure to see your physician for follow up to monitor healing and regrowth.

Your hair loss around the wound may be temporary. You need to wait a few more months to see if it grows back. If it doesnt you need to see a specialist for different options.

It takes up to 6 months for hair that is forced into telegen to reverse into its growth phase so by the 6th month you will know the answer to that question.
