I am a 55 y/o female with saggy belly skin from a long-ago pregnancy and a mild accumulation of fat in my belly, but more so in love handles and back. I have lost four inches from my waist so far - mainly from my abdomen - but am having a difficult time losing the love handles and back fat. I'd like to lose the fat, but my main concern is tightening my saggy belly. Between Vaser Shape and Skintyte, which one would you recommend for the most effective skin tightening?
Answer: Vaser Shape versus Skintyte? Thank you for your question. We have both a Sciton laser with SkinTyte II and a Vaser Shape in our office so I can give you some general advice on their use. Both devices are effective at what they do. The SkinTyte II does tighten skin with multiple treatments. We primarily use it on the neck and face and have obtained some nice results with it, especially when combined with Forever Young treatments also using the Sciton BBL. It does not reduce fat. The Vaser Shape is effective at getting some skin tightening with some fat reduction. It is highly user dependent, meaning that the person using it has to be properly trained on its use and knows how to get the best results. Neither device is as effective as surgery. If someone needs a facelift then SkinTyte II is not going to get the same result that the surgery would. Similarly, if you have enough loose skin that you need a tummy tuck to get the optimal then Vaser Shape is not going to get the same result that the surgery would. So it comes down to your expectations in terms of what you want to look like. You should have a consultation with a plastic surgeon certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery and preferably also a member of The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery who has a Vaser Shape and Sciton laser to get a realistic idea of what the to devices and surgery can accomplish so that you can make n informed decision as to what will best meet your expectations.
