Does taking Doxycycline acne capsules cause hair loss?

Its been nearly 12 months that i have been taking this medicine, for acne n now i m suffering hair loss.. everytime i comb my hair, it knots at places and finally i end up with lots of hair loss moreover i also get frequent headaches and my head feels heavy all the time.. Please help me out... What should i do? Should i continue taking this medicine or Should i quit?

Doxycycline is not a common cause of hair loss but rarely it can. It is rare - by no means common. There are many reasons for hair loss some of which are associated with acne too. Anyone who has headaches on doxycycline must seek medical attention to evaluate for serious causes of headaches (such as pseudotumor cerebri and other causes). Be sure to seek proper evaluation.

It would be interesting to know if you had these symptoms 12 months ago when you started doxycycline. If you didn't, the symptoms you have are unlikely to be a side effect of the medication. I would consult the doctor who prescribed doxycycline to review your medication in lieu of the symptoms you are suffering from.

There is no connection between doxycycline and hair loss other than it can be used for a variety of conditions such as folliculitis.
