I'm currently on minoxidil for my aga. My testosterone is only slightly elevated. I'm not sure I have pcos - waiting for more tests. Can my hair improve with minoxidil only or do I need to get my testosterone down asap?

That’s an excellent and very relevant question — especially for women with androgen-related hair loss who may or may not have PCOS.

If your testosterone is only slightly elevated, and you’re already using topical minoxidil, you can still see meaningful improvement in hair density.
Minoxidil works locally, stimulating follicles directly to extend the growth phase (anagen) — its effect does not depend on systemic hormone levels.

However, if future testing confirms PCOS or persistent androgen excess, combining minoxidil with hormone-balancing therapy (such as spironolactone, oral contraceptives, or anti-androgen medication) can further stabilize hair loss and improve long-term results.

In summary:

You can safely continue minoxidil for now — it will still help.

If your hormonal imbalance is mild, it might not require aggressive suppression.

The key is to treat both scalp and systemic causes once your full hormonal profile is clear.
