I've had braces but I still think my smile is unattractive. My lip rises quite high above my teeth when I smile and my gums are uneven. I know the gums are an easy fix, but what did Jennifer Garner do to lower her upper lip like that so that her gums don't show as much? Lip repositioning surgery?

Hi there,
Gummy smiles can be caused by several different reasons and treated several different ways.
 It could be caused by Vertical Maxillary Excess (the upper jaw is long), Altered Passive Eruption (gums are still covering the teeth), Dental Alveolar Extrusion (upper teeth and gums grow downwards together), hyperactive lip, or small teeth.
Jennifer looks like she had small teeth and excessive gum display due to small teeth. I think she had veneers done and botox to reduce the height she can lift her upper lip. Maybe a bit of gum lifting or lip taking surgery.
You are different in that your teeth appear normal in size so that gum lifting may make the teeth look too long. I would look into aligning your teeth so the gum heights are the same to start with and evaluating what type of gummy smile you have before deciding on treatment.

It looks to me as if there was a combination of porcelain veneers, gum recontouring, botox and possibly facial fillers. A good Cosmetic dentist should be able to help you.

Hi:There seems to be gum recountoring and veneers with possible Botox and fillers with the lips.  Depending on the severity of gum tissue showing in your smile, you may need any where from gum recountoring to surgery to reposition the upper jaw.Best,Dr. Maddahi
