Question

My name is Alberto I'm 30 years old and my left side jaw grew more than the right side, because of this my chin is off center. I can see it in pictures or when I smile (because of this I don't smile a lot unfortunately) I also have crooked teeth. A maxilofacial that I visited long time ago told me that I would need orthodontic treatment + jaw surgery, to correct the problem. I could afford braces treatment, but jaw surgery is quite expensive here in the UK and couldn't afford it

Make sure you seek out multiple opinions before agreeing to do any jaw surgery/orthodontic treatment. It is likely your problem can be resolved without any surgery at all. Hi Alberto,Jaw surgery can be quite invasive and you want to make sure that you can go back to your surgeon for any issues that may arise, in addition to this, the surgery takes a lot of planning and healing and can be a fairly lengthy process so it would be difficult to do in another country. It is also in your best interest to choose a surgeon in which your orthodontist can remain in close contact with. I understand your perspective, but at the end of the day, for something so important you don't want to sell yourself short. Best of luck.

You will have the best outcome from your jaw surgery if your Orthodontist and Jaw Surgeon are in close communication. It is also recommended that you find a board certified Orthodontist and a board certified oral surgeon for this comprehensive procedure.
