Can Botox help the look of heavy brow ridge? (Photo)

Question

Hello doctors! I am very self conscious about my eyebrow ridge. I feel I look very masculine from the side. I am pleased with how I look straight on except minor lines etc. I have my first appt for fillers/botox soon. Is this something they could fill? Is my nose causing the problem? Does my hairline need to be lowered? I was told after a brain MRI I have scar tissue on my sinuses. Could that be causing or adding to the bump? Any suggestions are appreciated. To give the eyebrows a nice lift, we use injectable fillers to improve the eyebrow, upper eye, forehead and temple. A filler is placed on the bone and in the fat pads of these areas to contour and lift without it looking overdone. We use cannulas to limit pain and swelling. I suggest getting a formal consultation with a facial sculpting expert.

Botox to the medial brow and central glabella area can relax the muscles there and help flatten the eyebrow ridge.  This may continue to improve over several Botox treatment periods.  Also elevating the lateral brow carefully and smoothing the smile lines can also be useful.

Small amounts of botulinum toxin into the lateral eyebrow (often along with treatment of the smile lines around the corners of the eyes) can often improve the arch of the eyebrow, making the brow ridge appear less heavy.  Treatment of the glabellar complex of muscles (between the eyebrows in a V-shape) can also help to some degree.  For patients concerned about a heavy brow, I would caution against botulinum toxin injections into the forehead, as this can frequently worsen the issue.  Seek an in-person evaluation with a board-certified dermatologist who is an experienced injector to assess your face at rest and in motion to determine the best individualized treatment plan for you.

It’s quite possible that Botox will flatten your medial brow, especially if you have pretty active frown muscles, but this is difficult to assess from still photos. It can also take a while for the muscles to atrophy so you will likely need consistent treatments (every 4 months or so ) to see maximum improvement.  You doctor can also lift your brow for a lovely look by injecting glabella and the lateral brow.  I would avoid injecting the horizontal forehead lines for now. Best to you.
