Can I use Tretinon before and after Laser Genesis?

Question

I am going to start on Laser Genesis treatments to improve my skin texture and would like to know if I need to stop using tretinon 0.05-0.1 before and after the treatments? If so, for how long? I am 46 years old.

From my extensive experience with Laser Genesis, there are no restrictions using Tretinoin before and after laser treatment. Both Genesis and Tretinoin stimulate collagen which is helpful in treating acne scars.

I usually have my patients stop using tretinoin cream, salicylic acid, or vitamin C products 3 days prior to laser treatments. I suggest waiting 72 hours before restarting them because you do not want to make the skin more sensitive to the laser.

Laser Genesis is a gentle treatment that usually has no down-time.  It is a wonderful way to reduce pore size, smooth the skin and minimize any underlying red tones.  We advise our patients to stop any products containing tretinoin 48 hours prior to their treatment and to wait 48 hours before resuming it.  However, some peoples' skin is less sensitive than others and, therefore, some people do fine without stopping it because the Genesis treatment is so gentle.  I would recommend that you stop for the first treatment and see how your skin does.
