White spot on incision line post breast reduction. Infection or spitting suture?

It looks like you have a spitting suture which will normally settle down in its own with some polysporin.  In your case the area is getting worse to the point that it may be infected. It is worth a follow up with your surgeon for complete evaluation and further treatment if needed.  All the best,Dr. Nancy de Kleer

Dear Price,Difficult to answer.  IF the nurse saw it and was unconcerned, that speaks volumes.  On the other hand, you know your body and are able to report new symptoms.  If pain and redness appeared suddenly, it means something is going on.  Whether that is a spitting stitch or a minor early infection, only your Plastic Surgeon can determine with a physical exam.Contact your surgeon and ask to be seen once more.Best of luck.Dr T

Hello and thank you for your question.  Based on your photos, it is hard to say if anything is wrong.  I do think that the reaction is consistent with a skin reaction to suture.  If you are concerned, I suggest that you follow up with your surgeon in person.

Please visit your doctor, not the nurse, and have it checked out. Likely it is a stitch but it should be checked for deepr infection potential.
