Do you prescribe antibiotics after a Brazilian butt lift? Is it necessary?

Hello Doctor!! Was wondering if it is a standard of practice to prescribe an oral antibiotic after a brazilian butt lift surgery; if not why? Are there more cases of infection without antibiotics post surgery?

Perioperative antibiotics have become a standard.  There is less agreement about antibiotics for a period of time after surgery, though I still provide them for about a week.

I would recommend that you discuss this question with your surgeon as every surgeon has their own respective post op protocol for his/her patients.  Your surgeon is your best resource as he/she is most familiar with your medical history and how you are healing at this time.

For my patients, they are given IV antibiotics intra-operatively and antibiotics for one week post operatively.

The best way to assess and give true advice would be an in-person exam.

Perioperative antibiotics are often used for this procedure. Some surgeons will have patients take antibiotics after the procedure as well.

A BBL is essentially a fat transfer procedure.  Though postoperative antibiotic may not be essential after a liposuction, where only fat is being removed, it is standard after a  procedure where fat is being injected back into a patient.
