Can I get my retainers made from a different orthodontist?

It will likely cost more than if it was part of a treatment plan or case.  Often the first retainer is included in a case, so changing providers usually results in a more expensive alternative.  Some cases are better served with something OTHER than an essix, but as long as you don't hold the new office responsible for any changes or shifts, you should be fine.

If your orthodontic treatment is completed you can have retainers made by any dentist who does Invisalign or traditional orthodontics.  I would highly recommend Vivera retainers which are comfortable and almost invisible.The dentist must be certified by Invisalign and will take impressions of your teeth to be used to create the retainers.
