Infrared sauna after tummy tuck and fat transfer to breasts?

Question

I’m having a TT and FT and wondering how soon after I can use my sauna for healing/general relaxation? It is an excellent sunlighten brand sauna that I use primarily for pain, Increased circulation and mental well being. How soon is it safe to return to this regime?

Lack of cleanliness, and hot temperatures of the sauna can expose you to burns if you lack sensitivity and to infection if your incisions have not healed.  I generally ask patients to avoid public bathing options for at least six weeks. Ask the plastic surgeon who performs your TT and breast fat transfer for advice as he or she will know how your scar tissue is healing.

Patients recovering from surgery should not engage in certain activities including the use of a sauna or hot tub. The risk of infection is too high during the period of recovery and you don't want to risk exposing open wounds or incisions to bacteria that commonly grow in areas of high heat such as a sauna or hot tub. In some cases, patients are advised not take baths but to use their shower for bathing while in recovery just as an added precaution. We advise our patient to avoid these activities for one month before and after surgery to ensure that they are not exposed prior to surgery as well. Other activities patients are advised to refrain from are; visiting a salon or spa, swimming in public pools or lakes, steam rooms  and any other activities that could potentially expose the patient to bacteria that can ultimately make it too risky to proceed with surgery. We enforce many rules for our patients so they can experience a great recovery without infection or complication. These extra precautions result in the patient having a healthy safe recovery which is the ultimate goal following surgery. Hang in there, it's worth it in the end!

I would suggest asking your surgeon what he/she prefers. However, I do recommend avoiding excess heat, including a sauna, for at least 6 weeks, otherwise you risk more swelling, pain, and infection.
