 Rhinoplasty and sinus surgery can be performed at the same time. Sinus surgery is considered functional and is usually billed the patient's medical insurance once medical necessity has been documented. The rhinoplasty procedure can also be performed at the same time to change the shape of the nose. In our practice we do not recommend Gore-Tex placed in the nose.  We recommend dorsal augmentation with patient's own cartilage, or  a Flowers nasal dorsal implant, which is an inert Slastic implant.

Thank you for submitting your photographs and clinical
history, as they are very helpful. If,
in fact, you do have nasal polyps that are compromising your breathing and airflow,
you should seek the advice of a trained nasal airflow surgeon who would also do
an internal nasal exam with a tiny scope to ensure there’s no septal deviation,
turbinate obstruction, internal or external valve collapse as well as other
pathologies that may be compromising your airway. Dorsal augmentation with Gore-tex® or bone
grafting or silicone implant are options for aesthetic improvement and contour
enhancement. Shortening the nose can
also be facilitated at the same time. To
perform both these surgeries during the same operation is advantageous and I
would recommend your nose-throat functional as well as cosmetic rhinoplasty
surgeon with lots of experience. My good friend and colleague, Dr. Phil
Solomon, is an expert skilled and trained in nasal airflow surgery as well as
nasal augment surgery. I would recommend
contacting Dr. Solomon’s office and I think you’ll be in excellent hands.

I have been performing cosmetic rhinoplasty procedures for
over 20 years, trained in both plastic surgery and ENT head-neck oncology. However, specialized airway management with
removal of polyps and other nasal airflow procedures over and above a simple
septoplasty is best handled with a functional nasal surgeon, such as Dr.
Solomon, who can also perform the cosmetic rhinoplasty component. A simple, straightforward septoplasty airway
flow control with internal valve support are procedures that are performed
routinely. But nasal polyp removal and
other posterior airflow abnormalities are best served by a trained sinus
surgeon.
