I had an old PFM crown on the root-canaled 1st premolar replaced with a new zirconia crown 6 months ago. I noticed a tiny black line at the tooth margin and wondering why would it be there. I dont know if the line was there immediately after the crown placement, but I noticed it about 3-4 months ago which would make it 2-3 months after the crown was placed. The line remains the same since. I am wondering if there is a cause for concern about the longevity or stability of the crown. Thanks!

They could be breaking for four different reasons: 1) your bite (are you a grinder or clencher?) 2) the actual defect may be a result of the way the dental lab made your crown 3) the type of material and crown that your dentist and you chose to have it made out of 4) how good...
Is connecting all the crowns together done? Yes, but generally it is not the best way to crown the teeth unless there is severe mobility (looseness of the teeth) cause by loss of bone and periodontal disease. My preference any time that I can, I want the teeth done with individual crowns...
This was mentioned in the consent form, as it can happen. As mentioned, the bonding to metal won't last. So what if you don't have any insurance for the doctor to get payment? In this scenario, I would replace the crown for approximately the lab fee.
