Will the nipples return to normal after Breast Reduction?

I've had my BR done and it seems that my nipples are in a constant state of erectness which is rather painful since they won't go down at all! It actually hurts when material touches against them. Its been almost a month and it hasn't changed. Any chance this won't be permanent? Its quite embarrassing.

Nipple hypersensitivity is sometimes seen after breast reduction or augmentation. While you may be tempted to protect these painful areas, you must do exactly the opposite: massage, rub or pinch the nipples frequently during the day. You will find that the hypersensitivity lessens and then disappears over some weeks. All the best.

can occur and time should help resolve this so it isn't permanent.  My patients are instructed to massage their nipples (after the wounds are healed) with moisturizer several times a day to help desensitize the nipples.

This hypersensitivity is often seen after reduction, lift and sometimes augmentation.  It usually goes away over a few weeks to months.  You may want to wear some gauze or nursing pads over your nipples in the meantime.
