Thank you for your question, there may be a misconception as Allergan one of the manufacturers of textured implants recalled all of their textured implants. Other two companies namely Mentor and Sientra continue making their textured implants in both shaped and round varieties.
Some of the textured implant manufacturers have removed their textured implants from the market. The issues have been more focused towards specific brands.
Only implants made by Allergan were linked to a rare form of cancer, and these were recalled. Mentor still has a variety of textured implants available for use.
Although I am not sure about their availability ( because I don't use them) you should go for smooth implants. The texturing dies no good and is linked to a certain type of cancer. Teardrop shaped implants always have problems as well. So whether available or not I advise against them
Dear Phenomenal226998,breast implant type and sizing selection is a complicated process and requires a detailed consultation that includes a discussion of your goals, a detailed examination, and a lengthy discussion. But the decision will always start and end with the patient. When it comes to sizing, we have all of our patients find 3 photos of their desired breast size. We ask for naked breast photos because clothing can obscure the true size (push up bras). Next, we consult with patients and go over the photos and take detailed breast measurements during a physical exam. Next, we using a sizing algorithm to determine a range of implants that will work based on the exam and the measurements.Lastly, during the operation, we use silicone sizers in the operating room to see how the size actually looks in the breast. We sit the patient up in the operating room, while asleep of course, and compare the sizer result with their desired look photos. If it is too small, we start the process over with a slightly larger implant. We don't stop until we get the perfect match.Of all of my breast augmentation patients, every one of them has been happy with their size due to this detailed and meticulous process. You don't want to invest time and money into a result that is either too big or too small. You should discuss your concerns with a board-certified plastic surgeon and make sure that your surgeon understands your goals.Daniel Barrett, MDCertified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
Not all textured implants are banned in the US, and anatomical implants, shaped implants, are still available.
Hi and welcome to our forum!A recall of BIOCEL textured breast implants and tissue expanders was ordered by the FDA on 7/24/2019 after Medical Device Reports revealed an increased incidence of breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma, which appears to be related to the presence of a high surface area textured implant. The incidence is quite small with only 10 patients per year diagnosed with the condition. Patients with these implants are to notify their healthcare provider if there is pain or swelling near the implant or if there are any changes in breast appearance. Otherwise, removal is not recommended. Other branded textured implants are still available. Best wishes...
You would do well with implants placed behind the muscle for better upper chest fullness and avoiding seeing the implant edge. Remember, the implant goes behind the breast and if the breast sits somewhat low on the chest, so will the implant.
After I measure and discuss goals with my patients, we then look at pictures of women (my patients) with similar measurements with different size and style breast implants. They also get to see what they would look like when the breasts have fully dropped and fluffed and in clothes. You get to...
Hello, and thanks for your question. I don't think a 375 cc implant would be too large on your frame. It will be an adjustment but if you want to go bigger I would do at least 325cc-375cc for your frame. Please see my attached video on determining breast implant size. At our office, we have a...
