Is it too late to get the crown now or is it OK still?

It is likely that the tooth has another cavity and the top portion is loose. Or, there is an infection 'under' the tooth causing it to be loose.Either way, the tooth needs to be evaluated to see if it can be saved or if it needs to be extracted.Sincerely,Dr. Reiser

Dentists always recommend proceeding to the definitive stage of restoration with a build-up restoration and a crown immediately after root canal therapy for a number of reasons. 1) If the temporary restoration wears down and loses its seal, bacteria will get into the root canal filling area and the root canal will have to be redone to save the tooth. 2) The previous decay and removal of it severely weakens the tooth, and the root canal procedure hollows out the inside of the tooth making it very prone to fracturing if it is not crowned soon after having the root canal completed.  If your tooth is feeling loose it may be fractured in some way and should be evaluated and treated appropriately at the earliest possible opportunity so that more serious conditions do not develop.Douglas Jopling, DDSDallas, TX area
