Is it normal to sometimes go without antibiotics before and after surgical excision tattoo removal?

Hello, I'm scheduled to have excision tattoo removal on my neck tomorrow. My friend had it done in another state NC and took a prophylactic antibiotic two days before the procedure. But, the plastic surgeon isn't having me take any as he doesn't like using prophylactics... Is there a higher risk?
