I am 23 years old, and I have some acne scars, especially on my cheeks. Is microdermabrasion a safe and effective treatment?

I use widmer AHA-CONCEPT 5% and hyfac aha cream every other Nights and my doctor has recommend microdermabrasion every 15 days for me, I want to know whether its an effective method for this issue and How many sessions will be needed. Thank you

Hi I am sorry to hear of your acne scars. Unfortunately, microdermabrasion is not the best way to go. You would need rfmicroneedling to break down scar tissue/old collagen and bring new collagen to the surface. A very effective add on for this which enhances results is the use of Platelet Rich Plasma, which is plasma from your blood used as a serum for rfmicroneedling and infused on beauty points and acne scars which then activates the repair process

I agree. There is no medical literature that has shown that microdermabrasion can treat acne scars. I always tell patients that this particular treatment is like getting your teeth cleaned except it’s for your face!  It can help patients with minimal textural changes to the skin when combined with retinol products or tretnoin prescription (better) and a good skin care regimen.
