Is it possible to remove a tattoo thats placed over scar tissue? whats the likely hood of complete removal?

Tattoos can be made lighter with laser treatments. tattoos over scar tissues can be a slightly challanging as the skin is thinner. however, it can be done. another option is to surgically excise the scar as well as the tattoo. that works better if the tattoo is rather smaller

Thank you for your question. Yes, you can have laser tattoo removal to remove the remaining ink over scar tissue. I recommend having treatment with the Picosure laser as it is effective in removing 70-90% of a tattoo and works best on dark colors. Scar is not normal skin.  The normal reaction of the skin the q-switched laser in terms of the normal ability to heal without further scar and the ability of your white blood cells to remove the pigment of the tattoo can be impeded.  Bottom line, the results can be highly variable.
