Thank you for your question in regards to laser tattoo removal. Direct sun exposure is recommended to be avoided 2 weeks before and after laser treatments. Once that time has passed, its important to keep a high SPF over the tattoo, and covered if possible. Going to the beach should not pose an issue as long as the tattoo is completely healed and sunscreen is applied generously. To be sure what is best for you, see two or more board-certified providers in your area for a complete evaluation to make sure you are a good candidate and that it is safe for you to have treatment. I hope this helps.
If you are in a series of treatments, we recommend avoiding sun exposure before and after treatments. We have many patients who continue treatments over the summer who cover smaller tattoos with a dressing or use clothing and a good sun protection (preferable wit some zinc 10%+) applied often. If you are not having a follow up treatment for some time, we still recommend using a good sun protection. Newly treated tattoos can possible develop pigmentation if exposed to the sun too soon.
Hi there! Great question. I think sun exposure can wreak havoc on a tattoo laser treatment for a couple of reasons. First, the laser treatment will most likely leave a scab or broken skin, which will not heal as quickly if the treated skin is exposed to sun. Second, the risk of the skin turning lighter or darker in color increases with immediate sun exposure. I like to have patients wait until the laser treatment is healed before exposing it to sun. This may take 1 week, 2 weeks, or more depending on the location of the treatment. Just keep it covered in the sun! Hope this helps. Dr. Sawyer

Yes, it is possible to remove the stick and poke tattoo with a laser tattoo. One to two treatments might be enough for such a tattoo. Not all patients can have 100% of removal, of the tattoo but the best approach is a combination of pico and nano technology. Depending on how many sessions you ha...
I see that PIH has started. This happens when redness persists. I would suggest a retin A or retinol and hydroquinone. No further tattoo removal lasers until this heals. Chemical peel might be helpful too. Prevention with steroids - topical/oral is easier than treating the PIH.
