Do I really have to wait 1yr 6 months after Roaccutane until I wax or have laser hair removal treatments?

I'm just about to finish my course of Roaccutane and my dermatologist told me he recommends waiting for one and a half years after stopping Roaccutane to wax or have laser hair removal due to the risk of scarring. I haven't had overly sensitive or dry skin and tolerated the Roaccutane well so I was just wondering if he is being overly cautious as it seems like a very long time to wait.
