Retin A can be very helpful for sebaceous hyperplasia. Retin A help "calm down" and shrink the sebaceous glands but it does not eliminate them. Therefor, once the retin A is stopped the sebaceous glands will probably return to their pre-treatment size. The most common way to get rid of them permanently is through electrodessication or laser but this will often leave indented scars. Photodynamic therapy is another possibility, but the exact parameters and protocols are still being worked out. Retin A is probably the best bet because you get other benefits with use of this cream, including increased collagen production and a reduced risk for certain skin cancers.Hope this is helpful.
