I've been applying tretinion 0.05% on acne for acne vulgaris. Skin has been red and rough. Should I continue?

Apllying tretinion has made my skin rough reddish and I've god some sort of bruises on face, face is itchy all the time, should i continue to apply or not as it says that after application it becomes worse by 2nd week.. So as is happening to me. Could you help me out.

Thanks for your question.  Your physician should have given you more detailed instructions.  We recommend our patients ease into using retinol.  If they have had a laser treatment or a chemical peel, we delay starting retinol for 2-5 days.  We have our patients start using retinol twice a week for a couple of weeks and slowly ratchet up the frequency.  Your goal would to be eventually get to using it every night, but some people can't get there.  Only use it as much as you can tolerate.  I hope this helps.
