I have had alarplasty done, and there’s this lump/ muscles on the sides of my nose when I smile. It is almost like two lumps on the sides of my alars when I smile. Could this be a cause from the procedure or is this possible for some people naturally? Tried googling everywhere but can’t find the medical term for it. Any help will be appreciated! I saw a photo of a celebrity on screen with the exact same thing. Hope this gives clarity as I couldn’t explain it properly.

Answer: Contour irregularities after alarplasty and alar base reduction
Skin is elastic and stretches. Especially when smiling, the skin along the nose and ala moves. A 2 mm nasal sill incision will create less than 3-4 mm of width reduction.
Intrinsic skin elasticity and the dynamic interactions of the dilator naris with the skin envelope will affect ultimate width reduction after alarplasty more than simply the skin thickness.
The nose pictured is a good candidate for alarplasty with combined nasal sill and Weir incisions. The proportions of the nostril width and tip width is important for the surgeon to consider when designing the incisions.
