What is the concensus of silicone as a wrinkle filler? Is it a good idea?
Answer: Do to the availability of safer fillers, silicone oil should be avoided. Silicone oil has a long and sordid history as a filler. It has destroyed many, many individuals. Initially, it was used to augment breasts with terrible results. The silicone oil migrated and caused severe inflammatory reactions in the tissues and disfiguration. There is no simple way to remove the material. Silicone oil is FDA approved for use with complex retinal detachment surgery. Some doctors have diverted this product for use as a facial filler. Certainly this is safer that other sources of silicone oil. At pumping parties among lay self-injectors, the silicone oil being injected is actually an industrial grade silicone oil that was never intended for medical use ( i.e injection into the body). People have died as a result of these adulterated products. There are still doctors in the United States who continue to inject silicone into the face and lips. There is no longer a compelling reason to take this type of risk. The results are unpredictable, cannot easily be adjusted, and late migration, and a substantial risk of inflammation and deformity means that no one should be subjected to this product. Perlane, a hyaluronic acid filler, lasts up to 18 months and can be easily modified with hyaluronidase at any time. Why take any risks when superior products like Perlane are widely available. Just say no to liquid silicone.

Answer: NO!! I would not use silicone for any injection. I have seen horrible results from patients injected in their breast and buttocks and elsewhere. The silicone initiate a severe inflammation. Infection, extrusion and bad lumps could be the outcome. Please do not let any one inject silicone in your body. So many fillers available in the market. Good luck!
