What procedures can be performed to improve the lower half of my face? Chin implant? (photos)

Question

I've always been self-conscious about the lower half of my face (the lower half of face looks awkward and sad) and am wondering if I'm a good candidate for a chin implant or what other procedures would help address these issues. I also feel that my face is crooked (the left side of my face is slightly higher than the right) due to an incorrect palatal expander worn as a 12yo (an incorrect expander was placed in the roof of my mouth for 8 months so only 1 side was being expanded).

It appears that your chin is mildly recessive but long. A CT or cephalometric x-ray would identify if there is a vertical length problem. Typically, the length of the chin is best reduced with a genioplasty. Simultaneously, the chin can be corrected for symmetry and horizontal projection. In one procedure, all these concerns can be addressed. The surgery is performed in the office with sedation anesthesia.

It would be very difficult to give you good advise based on these photos. It is possible that small chin implant could create change that you need. In some plastic surgeon's offices  3D animation may be available to demonstrate this type of improvement. In person consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon with good reputation in facial rejuvenation is recommended. Good luck.

The first thing to try would be some Botox to your chin.  This quick, safe, and inexpensive treatment will relax the tight mentalis muscle and give you a more defined chin and improve the projection of the chin.

It appears your chin is vertically long and just a bit recessive but its longer length is the larger aesthetic issue. A chin implant would not be a good choice as increasing the horizontal projection with an implant does not address the length issue and it may even make it look longer. Vertically shortening the chin would be a better approach, with possibly some in creased horizontal projection. But to make these determinations computer imaging of these potential lower facial changes needs to be done to determine what looks best to you.
