I plan on getting microneedling with prp next month, but not sure if it will help my biopsy scar. A doctor removed tissue from my cheek in July 2021 and it still looks red and doesn't appear to have fully healed. Can you tell by looking at the photo in this post if the scar has healed? There appears to be an opening in the area. Would micro needling with plasma help the area blend with my skin and get rid of the redness? If it doesn't look to have healed, what would help? Thanks
Answer: PRP can help promote collagen growth. Recommend doing vbeam to reduce redness and Resurfx to even out texture Our office has many different treatments for scars depending on the depth of atrophy or hypertrophy. Scars require a combination approach using our HI DEF protocol which uses a combination of lasers, topical scar modulation, and RF treatments to pixelate scars, improve contour, reduce hyperpigmentation, and improve the visibility of the scars so that they are no longer visible in ambient light. Everyone has a unique pattern of scarring and we employ our HIDEF technique to improve texture, color, contour, and topography. We often use a combination of treatments that begin with a careful examination to examine the micro texturing of the acne scars. Atrophic scars and indented scars can benefit from injectable fillers such as Radiesse, Sculptra, and Restylane with or without subcision to remove tethered scars and atrophic depression. Hyper-redness in scars can be improved with V beam laser, Excel V, BBL, IPL, and Venus RF to improve the redness and reduce the visibility of deep scars. Fractional Thulium laser and clear & brilliant can also reduce the inflammation and redness of the scar when combined with topical therapy. Fractional lasers such as Fraxel, erbium, and CO2 laser can be combined with radio frequency and also fractional RF to improve textual issues and microtopography. Subcision and TCA cross are also used for deep ice pick scars and narrow valley scars in order to improve the micro texture. Above all, our combination approach with our clinical nurses and board-certified plastic surgeons can improve the quality of your skin by using at home Melarase creams combined with PRP treatments in our office to improve your skin quality and tone. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with an experienced team of experts in order to reduce your scarring. Finally, hyperpigmentation of scars can be improved with at-home Melarase AM, Melarase PM, and Melapads to help reduce active PIH and melanin deposition. Best, Dr. Karamanoukian Realself100 Surgeon

Answer: Microneedling+Certain Anti-Redness Topical Prescription Medications Can Improve Surface Texture & Color Irregularities A close-up HD photo would have been extremely helpful. However, in general, professional performed microneedling (either manual or electric) accompanied by the application of topical vasoconstrictors, such as brimonidine and agents, such as tranexamic acid, can be quite helpful for diminishing postinflammatory erythema (PIE). PRP is a time-consuming and expensive add-on for which the hard science to support is purported benefits lags well behind the heavy marketing to promote its use. The same may be said for RF microneedling whose supposed advantage over standard professionally performed microneedling remains to be proven. Make sure that you consult with a board certified cosmetic dermatologist. Best of luck.

Answer: Scar Hello and thank you for your question! Microneedling with PRP is a great treatment to help to resurface fine lines, wrinkles, scarring, and textural issues. Given the time since you've had the biopsy, the area may be healed, but regarding the redness...microneedling would not be the best option for this specific spot because the redness could potentially become worse. I would suggest seeing a provider near you that offers photo rejuvenation lasers such as IPL that could help target the redness specifically. I hope this helps!
