How long after laser tattoo removal can a tattoo cover up be performed?

Question

I am going to get a couple laser sessions to lighten a tattoo before having it covered up with another tattoo. I was just wondering how long after the last laser session can I get the new tattoo? Also is it likely that there will be scarring or changes to skin texture which might compromise a new tattoo?

question. In order to get the area re-tattooed again you have to make sure you
are fully healed. Follow up with your doctor to make sure you are healed

Thank you for your question. Yes, you can have laser tattoo removal to remove the remaining ink over scar tissue. I recommend having treatment with the Picosure laser as it is effective in removing 70-90% of a tattoo and works best on dark colors. It is important that the laser tattoo treatment is completely healed and that there are no complications with the treatment before applying a coverup tattoo.  Certain areas of the body are much more likely to scar such as the mid chest and deltoid areas.  Other areas are very slow to heal such as the ankle.  I would recommend that you consult with a dermatologist after laser tattoo removal to answer this question.
