Will silicone tape be beneficial after getting a scar injected with 5fu?

Hello I am getting. A Third injection of 5fu to a scar which has honestly made progress from the injections as well as two micro needling sessions. I am wondering after I get my 5fu injection, would it be beneficial to use silicone tape again for awhile? Or is it too late being 1 year to mess around with the tape? Wondering if the compression could be helpful after the injection?

Hi there,

It’s great to hear that you’ve already noticed progress with your scar after your 5-FU injections and microneedling, that’s really encouraging.

Silicone tape (or silicone sheets) can still be helpful, even a year out. While they tend to work best in the earlier phases of scar healing, they can still provide benefits by keeping the area hydrated and offering a bit of compression. This can sometimes soften the scar further and complement the injections you’re already receiving.

It’s not too late to try, especially since silicone is safe and non-invasive. Many patients continue to see subtle improvements when using it alongside other treatments. Just be consistent with it, and make sure the area isn’t irritated after your injection before reapplying the tape.

Think of it as one more tool in your scar-healing toolbox, it may not be a dramatic change on its own, but it can still play a supportive role in helping your results.
