Tretinoin or Tazorac after Microneedling?

Question

Should I wait to use Tazorac or Tretinoin after undergoing a microneedling treatment? My dermatologist told me to use it but I just want to make sure it won't interfere with the healing process.

The use of Tretinoids or Tazorac after microneedling procedures is not prohibited.  Your skin may feel a little dry and peely from the procedure ,therefore using these products will enhance the dryness.  At our office, we recommend patients wait a week to resume using these products.

We like retinols, vitamin c, growth factors, and hydroquinone after microneedling.  Please see an expert.  Cosmelan peels and facials should be done 3-5 days after microneedling.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Since there is a few days down time after a microneedling treatment, I would recommend waiting at least 5 days after to start applying or reapplying tretinoin or Tazorac since they can be irritating.

Hello and thank you for your question.We recommend to our patients, after the redness calms (usually by day 3) after microneedling when done with PRP, they can continue their products. If tretinoin is what you have been using in your skin care regimin, I would continue to use after the redness is gone.Best to you,

Their are many opinions on this matter. We do not have our patients use any Vit A creams for 5 days after microneedling. We have them leave the office with Tensage Ampoules ,which are growth factors, to a apply to the face 2 times a day for 4 days. We also recommend NOTHING on the skin for 24 hours after treatment except the Tensage. It would be best to abide by the instructions given to you by your practicioner.

Hi scotty914,Your skin is still healing. I suggest you wait 5-7 days after treatment before using Tretinoin or Tazorac. you may be more sensitive to skincare products at this point. If your skin still feels more sensitive than usual, hold off on these products and use Cerave moisturizer.Remember not to pick your scabs. Continue using a gentle cleanser and a moisturizer until flaking resolves. You can resume using sunscreen after 3 days. Stay out of the sun.All the best, Justin Harper, M.D.
