Hi doctors, I had TT procedure on February last year and I don’t like the way my hip look. Some people say I have deep hip naturally and there is no way I can get rid of it by excersie. I’m thinking to have injection filler into sides of my hip to make them look rounder. Is it possible?
Answer: Fillers for hip augmentation? Although I encourage every patient to workout and live a healthy lifestyle, curvaceous hips is most often the result of the right genetics for the skeletal framework and fat deposits in the hip area.Often buttock implants provide the added curve to the "hip-dips" that many patients are looking for. However this is mostly when viewing from the back side. When viewing from the front side of the body, actual cosmetic hip implants can be placed either at the same time or instead of buttock implants. Unlike buttock implants, which should always be placed under/within the gluteus maximus muscle, hip implants are placed under just the fascia because no significant muscle exists in this region. However, because they are much smaller and lighter, their likelihood of migration is relatively low. Typical sizes range from 120-250 ccs but any size can be custom made and utilized depending upon the patients anatomy. Regarding “fillers” if you’re referring to injections of foreign substances like silicone liquid or PMMA or hydrogels, although they can be very cheap, they are extremely dangerous and therefore should never be done. If you’re referring to true “fillers” such as Sculptra or hyaluronic acids (eg Juvederm or Restylane) and which are all temporary, then if the doctor is truly using medical grade FDA approved materials then it will be extremely expensive to have 20+ cc injected (~ $ 800+ per cc). Keep in mind that when hip implants are used, the smallest implant is 120 mL in each side (240 mL total for two). So that means that only 20-40 ccs of fillers is like a drop in the ocean and provides insignificant augmentation to the buttock unless you can afford $200,000+. Finally all injectables are relatively much more dangerous and deadly than buttock implants with a estimated death rate from fat transfer to be 1 out of 3000 patients.Unfortunately fat grafting to the hip area is frequently met with poor success because, again, there is no muscle there to place the fat into and thus is does not survive. Another thing is, if you are asked to purposely gain weight (i.e. fat) for the procedure, the fat you lose first as you get back to your baseline weight after surgery is that very same fat that was transferred into your buttock/hip...so don't fall victim to this recommendation. Glad to be of help.

Answer: BBL candidate Dear sunnytrinh, based on your photos, you look like a good candidate for a BBL. Liposuction of your abdomen, back and flanks should give you more curves and hourglass shape and fat transfer to buttocks should give you more projection. I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon because only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.Daniel Barrett, MD Certified, American Board of Plastic Surgery Member, American Society of Plastic Surgery Member, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery

Answer: Liquid bbl You could have Sculptra to the hip area and it should accomplish the goal. It will require a fair amount of filler and likely 2-3 rounds of injections. This can become more costly than surgery. As noted below, the other reasonable option to consider is a fat transfer to the hip area. Please consult with a board certified plastic surgeon to evaluate you in person and discuss all of the options.

Answer: Gre Hello!Based on your photos, it looks like a fat transfer (FT) would be something that might help you achieve your goals. With a FT, you have liposuction to harvest fat and sculpt one area, then the fat is purified, and then transferred to where it needs to go (in your case the hips to make them fuller and more curvaceous.)I would recommend seeing a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon who has experience with lipo, FT, and BBLs, and discuss your goals.I hope this helps!
