What is better for poikiloderma - IPL or a more aggressive one-time laser?

Jelly-A one-time blast type of laser treatment usually does not work and may even risk worsening the mottled red and brown discoloration of Poikiloderma.  For this skin condition, I recommend a series of 3-5 BBL (Broadband Light) treatments spaced at 3 week intervals.Good luck!

Poikiloderma of Civatte refers to redness associated with a mottled pigmentation seen on the sides of the neck, more commonly in women. Civatte first described the condition in 1923. At our practice I commonly use VBeam Perfecta and/or Candela Elos IPL SR hand pieces to treat poikiloderma of civatte.  It is a unique yet common skin disorder that responds well to laser/ipl treatments.  Multiple treatments are necessary and best done with a strict regimen of sunscreen and abstinence from sun exposure.  A vitalize peel done at the very beginning of laser therapy is beneficial as it preps the skin in advance of the laser therapy.  Microneedling is another option done in a series for patients that have less options for downtime.Since all results vary I recommend a customized in person consultation.  Good luck.

There are many vascular lasers on the market but I find that those should be combined with nonablative lasers or RF devices and PRP to get improvement in color and lines.  Please see an expert.  Best, Dr. Emer.
