Forehead paralysis after endoscopic brow lift? This is probably temporary and will recover over the next 3 to 6 months. The only thing you can do now is be patient.
If properly performed endoscopic brow lifts cause permanent paralysis of the frontal branch of the facial branch of the facial nerve, the one that innervates the muscle moving the eyebrow up and down, is very rare. That said temporary weakness or paralysis is seen 10 to 15 % of the time. Recovery may take up to 6 months , but is usually at 6 weeks to 3 months following the procedure. Regards Dr. Kiener.
Forehead movement is usually reduced after a brow lift due to postoperative swelling. However most of the swelling should be resolved by three weeks. This suggests that weakness of the frontal branch of the facial nerve could be the cause of this reduced forehead movement. Stretching or manipulation of this nerve during surgery can cause a temporary weakness of this nerve leading to reduced forehead movement. Usually this will resolve on its own within 3 months but can at times take up to 6 months or even a year to resolve.
but on the assumption that you do have some kind of injury, all you can do at this point is wait and hope that the nerves will recover and movement slowly returns. Nerves are usually stretched during this procedure so chances are good things will turn out fine. If you even have twitches, that is an encouraging sign. But you should get the definitive answer from your surgeon since he/she knows what was done and if there were any difficulties encountered.
Thanks for the great question. It sounds like you have a temporary paralysis of the frontal branch of your facial nerve on both sides of your forehead. This nerve starts down by your ear, then travels up to your forehead to control the muscle that moves your eyes brows. During the surgery your nerve might have either gotten stretched or cut. These nerve injuries do typically return, but it may take as long as 3-6 months. Best of luck!~Dr. Sieber
