Please see attached photos. I had quite a lot of fat removed inner and outer thighs (6lbs) via tumescent lipo. I'm 2 weeks post op. Swelling is down, but there is an apparent large mass that's quite obvious. It was not there, and suddenly I woke with it. Doctor's office (across the country) says to wait a month and let it be, but I'm concerned it's something needing drained. If so, what do you usually charge ($) a non-patient to drain this sort of thing?

Answer: Hard mass after liposuction Hi, thanks for posting and congratulations on your surgery. Your issue could be a number of things including fluid or a firm area of fat. It may be something that needs aspiration with a needle, treatment with antibiotics or it may be a swollen, firm area that could resolve on its own. In person consultation is the only way to tell. If you are concerned, an in-person consultation with a local board certified plastic surgeon will be worth the cost.

Answer: Firm mass after liposuction Some firmness it's not uncommon especially two weeks after liposuction. The more aggressive the liposuction the more common this is. I try to encourage patients to stay local for elective surgery. People seem two at times be in denial that complications or the need for revisions will actually happen to them. If you feel like you need to be evaluated you need to pick up the phone and start calling local board-certified plastic surgeon's and explain your situation. Before forewarned that that some plastic surgeons will not be all that motivated to see someone else's complication. Most likely this will dissipate on it's own but there's no way to tell for certain without an examination and possible tests to see if this is liquid. A seroma or fluid buildup can sometimes be diagnosed by an examination. Other ways to confirm the diagnosis is to put a large needle into the area and try to remove fluid or to perform an ultrasound. What you describe is fairly common in my practice and usually resolves by itself. Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD
