It is difficult to determine the best treatment plan without evaluating your skin's characteristics. Generally speaking, dark areas from light burns will fade on their own with time if kept out of the sun. This can take up to a year from the initial burn. For more persistent hyperpigmentation or dark spots, laser treatments, bleaching creams, and chemical peels can all help remove dark colors. Bleaching creams tend to be the most gentle followed by chemical peels and lastly laser treatments. The more aggressive treatments usually have a slightly greater downtime. It is best to have an in-office examination to determine which treatment is best for you as not all skin types can be treated with the same options and can even be made worse if not appropriately evaluated.
