Is it normal for a 6 month old crown to hurt when you chew?

Thank you for posting your question.  I am sorry to hear that you are having pain on your crown after six months.  It may be that you have a pre-existing unaddressed bite imbalance.  Are you aware if you clench or grind your teeth?  If your not sure then be mindful of where your teeth are at rest.  Check in with yourself and if you find that your teeth are together then you have to keep them apart.  If you put your tongue to the roof of your mouth then that will automatically keep the lower jaw apart.  At rest, teeth are meant to be apart NOT together.  Do you have any clicking or popping in your jaw joints?  If you put your fingers in front of your ear you can feel your jaw joint.  Feel if there are any differences between the two in terms of sounds and movement.  One may be smooth and the other has sounds or pops.  You may want to find a dentist that understands TMJ and occlusion.  You can find a Pankey Trained dentist in your area.  Hope this helps.  Good Luck!

Hi:Normally there might be some pain and or sensitivity with a new crown for the initial 2-4 weeks.  However 6 months seems to be too long.  My suggestion is go back to your dentist and have him check the bite in different movements and make sure the nerve is ok.  Clenching and or grinding can also play a role.Best,Dr. Maddahi
