I’m about two weeks in my recovery from a breast reduction, and I noticed that my left incision was leaking a tiny bit (the fluid was thin and yellow-ish and doesn’t have any smell). After showering I noticed I had a small opening where my incisions meet, so I assume a scab must have fallen off before it was ready to and that’s what caused the leaking. Right now I put a bandaid over the opening with some Neosporin to keep the area clean. Should I be doing anything else?

Congratulations on your recent procedure and thank you for your questions.  The "T" spot tend to be the weakest area of a Breast Reduction, so with that being said this is very common.  Each surgeon will have their own protocol to follow.  I would suggest you follow up with your surgeon and follow their instructions.  Best of luck to you.

A small opening such as what you described is not uncommon after a breast reduction.  It typically heals well with minimal home care.  Contact your surgeon just to inform her/him and get clarification on post operative wound care.

Thank you for your question and the photos.You have a very common small wound at the T portion of the incision.  It should be of no over all concern as far as your long term healing.  It sounds like your doing everything you need to be doing.  Follow up with your plastic surgeon so they know what’s happening.Best Dr. L

A small opening of the wound after breast reduction can occur and there is no reason to be concerned. It will heal all by itself in a short time. You are doing all the right things. Just keep it clean in the meantime. See your surgeon if you are worried at all
