I suggest you find another office.  Much of this story makes little educated sense. With a burn like this you need to keep it moist (which is probably why she recommended AB ointment) and covered (so it stays on). Hence she recommended steri strips. You can use bandaids or anything else but the key is that you want to keep the area clean and well gooped up with ointment.
