1 week post op breast reduction, is it normal to feel very achy and fatigued? Only taking 600mg ibuprofen every 6 hours.

congratulations on your recent breast reaction procedure. It is normal to feel
tired and sore after any major surgery, including a mastopexy. You are only one
week out from surgery, which is early in the healing process.
The discomfort will slowly fade and you will get your energy back, just be
patient. While you are very tender and achy, the fact that ibuprofen is all you
need for comfort is an excellent sign of healing. Stay in close contact with
your operating surgeon and keep all follow-up appointments. If you have any
questions or note any sudden changes, contact his/her office immediately.

Yes it is not unusual for one to experience symptoms that you describe postop following a breast reduction and best to keep in touch with your PS.

A breast reduction is a significant operation and requires time to properly heal. It would be unusual if he were not fatigued at one week out as it takes a significant amount of energy to heal. Discomfort that is dealt with by using ibuprofen only indicates that you are doing very well.

It is common to feel tired and achy the first week after surgery.  I would make sure you have a follow-up appointment with your plastic surgeon and discuss your symptoms.  It is best to have a physical exam in person to make sure you don't have a seroma, etc.  Take care.Timothy A. Janiga MD, FACS
